As the mother of the bride, you have watched your daughter grow from a little girl to a beautiful woman. Now that she is engaged, you get to help her plan a day she’ll never forget. During this fun (and occasionally stressful) time, you’ll be supporting the bride to be in many different ways. In honor of Mother’s Day, here are a few ways a mother of the bride can help her eco-chic bride to be!

In order to help plan a green wedding, you must be familiar with what it means to be a green bride. It will make the planning easier if you know how to talk to vendors about green values and what aspects go into creating a green wedding. A good starting point is our Green Weddings 101. Most importantly, communication is key. Take some time to sit down with your green bride and find out what ideas she has in mind so you are both on the same page.
The mother of the bride is usually in charge of many “behind the scenes” types of planning, including the bridal shower and bachelorette party. In some cases, these events are planned as a surprise to the bride so it is important to be an informative liaison between the bride and party planners. Make sure to check the bride’s date book to make sure it isn’t being planned overlapping an important appointment. Also, do not be afraid to ask details about the venues to see what they do with leftover food or recycling. It will mean so much to your green bride.

After you’re done picking out a beautiful dress for your daughter, it’s time to focus on you! Chances are, if your daughter is choosing an eco-friendly material or designer for her dress, the same boutique will have something for you. Eco-chic mothers can also purchase a used dress, borrow one from a friend, or buy something that you know you’ll wear again. This way you and the bride can elegantly complement one another.

Being informed and understanding green wedding options can help you to assist the bride in planning the wedding of her dreams. It can really help the bride to know that her mother not only understands her decision to have a green wedding, but is also upholding these choices.
