1.) GoodGuide is every bride’s best friend for planning a green wedding. This free iTunes app works as a bar code scanner, allowing users to check the environmental impact of an item before buying! Brides can check the effects, both good and bad, of their facial cleansers, make-up, hair products, event menu, garments, and many other necessities! GoodGuide has a database filled with more than 70,000 ratings in endless categories, which makes making green choices easier than ever! (Cost: free)
2.) Looking for a way to cut the cost of travel on your wedding day? The Carbon Tracker app uses GPS to reveal your carbon footprint based on your travels. Couples and their guests can use the Carbon Tracker to plan their transportation and offset their carbon emissions while staying fuel and cost efficient! This free app calculates everything from automobiles, trains, planes, and other vehicles. (Cost: free)
3.) Staying fuel and cost efficient is on every green bride’s itinerary, so why not carpool? The Carticipate app connects family and friends looking to share rides to an event though a select social network. It’s a great way to figure out who wants to share a ride and who has a ride to offer. Carticipate lets everyone play a part in your green wedding, and works to cut back on carbon emissions on your wedding day. (Cost: free)
4.) For those brides who are unsure of where to find green outlets for their wedding planning, there is Find Green. Find Green is a free app that directs you to local green businesses. While several existing apps offer a directory to sustainable food companies, Find Green connects you to other categories as well, such as health and landscaping needs. Couples can cover everything from food, flowers and garments, just to name a few. (Cost: free)
5.) For the Do-It-Yourself bride, the Green Genie app is a great way to brainstorm creative ideas for your big day! Green Genie offers over 100 suggestions on unique, cost-efficient, and ecological projects that brides can easily tie into their green weddings, as well as their every-day lives. Not only does the Green Genie offer creative projects, but long-term projects as well! Such as bringing your own grocery bags with you shopping, and reducing paper usage. 6.) PedNav makes organizing and traveling to events effortless. For all of those busy brides, PedNav offers ideal alternatives to environmentally harmful travel. Instead of using car options, they provide train times, bus schedules, venue directions, biking directions, and mass transit options. PedNav is an ideal app for busy brides preparing for their day.
7.) The iTunes app, Green Outlet, helps couples predict their electric bill and carbon footprints based on their appliances. Green Outlet allows you to see how much money each appliance is costing you. It’s a great way to stay cost-efficient during, and ever after, your wedding day. (Cost: $0.99)
