You’ve spent many months planning for this day. Now it’s finally arrived and you’re a nervous wreck! It’s natural to feel that way—all of the details swim around your head in a stressful cloud of potential disaster. Everyone comes to you with questions and problems, and you’re about to get married! It’s really a lot to handle. Prepare for that anxiety by planning the early part of the day ahead of time. Think about what you’ll need—food, inspiration, moral support, and some comic relief—and make sure those things are there for you, in abundance. Note: if this feels like too much, you can hire a professional to help you through your wedding day. Some wedding planners include this service gratis.

Morning Room Service

Start your wedding day right with some morning room service for you and your groom-to-be. If you’re staying in a hotel, you can order your food the night before. If you’re at home, have a local restaurant deliver some organic treats at a designated time or ask a bridesmaid to deliver them instead. You have a long, exciting day ahead of you and you might forget to eat as the ceremony gets closer. Energize your body with a good balance of protein (eggs, cheese, peanut butter), fruit, carbohydrates, and plenty of water. Wake up early enough that you have time to eat slowly—to enjoy the quiet moments before the day begins.

A Wedding Morning Playlist

Take some time to make a playlist of your favorite inspirational songs—songs that get you excited, that make you want to jump up and dance. Think of your wedding as a sporting event. You have to get psyched up to really appreciate what’s happening. The more excited you are, the less anxious you’ll feel. Your old familiar musical favorites can help put you in the right mood.

Let your silly side shine as you get ready for the wedding. Make funny faces at the camera, stick out your tongue as your bridesmaids smile prettily, and otherwise goof off as much as possible. Keeping the mood lighthearted will keep you from taking anything too seriously. Then, if something goes wrong, you’ll be able to roll with it.

I had these props at my wedding and they were an endless source of hilarity. My 85-year-old grandmother was posing for photos with a monocle and mustache—it was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Break them out in your dressing room for some extra laughs early in the day.

Have a Bridesmaid Plan to Give a Pep Talk

You’ll probably be feeling a mix of emotions—excitement, happiness, stress, worry—and you’ll need a little pep talk before you can walk down the aisle calmly. Your bridesmaid doesn’t have to perform a keynote speech, she just has to help you relax. You worked so hard to make your wedding day a success. All you have to do now is enjoy every moment.
