School themed wedding

I realize I may be in the minority but I loved high school. It was a time full of excited learning; great friends; opportunities for creative exploration; and a feeling of power, like I could take over the world. I loved college too. I met my husband in a Russian history class. How romantic, right? For us, school and learning are synonymous with happiness, intellectual stimulation, and boundless excitement. I wish we’d thought of giving our wedding a school-related theme! The world of education has a definite aesthetic. Classrooms are unmistakable as classrooms and yet, there’s a lot of versatility there. You can choose contemporary decorations, like white boards and computers, or go classic with heavy wooden furniture, chalkboards, big old maps, and books. Here are some ideas.

Fancy bridal eye vail

I had more fun shopping for wedding night intimate apparel than I had shopping for my dress. I think it was because I knew those purchases would be just for me and my husband, and that we’d be experiencing them together on our very first night as a married couple. It felt so special and important to find just the right outfit, something that struck just the right chord: sexy, innocent, and fresh. Every bride has her own intimate style and this is a time to let it shine! I had a lot of fun teasing my fiancé about my wedding night outfit in the weeks leading up to the wedding. It was a great way to relieve some of the pre-wedding stress and to remind us both about what an incredible reward we’d be getting at the end of all the planning: each other. Here are some beautiful eco-friendly intimates for your big night.

Rock n Roll style wedding collage

Vintage vinyl has been enjoying a resurgence in the digital age. Digital downloads just aren’t as satisfying as holding the object in your hands. Who wants to look at album art on a screen? And while many bands are releasing their music on brand new vinyl or plastic records, the old ones are still available in inexpensive abundance. A few weeks ago I went to a yard sale and bought fifty records for five dollars, and this isn’t unusual. Many thrift stores sell amazing vintage records by the crateful. For the music-loving couple, vintage vinyl is a classic, inexpensive, and readily available wedding object. It’s a great theme on its own or as part of a larger arts-themed celebration.

Wedding website

Wedding websites are excellent tools for communicating with guests. They’re eco-friendly too, especially if you use them to relay information you can omit from invitations. Rather than stuffing your envelopes with paper—maps, accommodation details, RSVP cards, etc.—you can send a single page with a URL to your online wedding hub. Many couples opt for a simple, information-based wedding website but there’s no reason why you can’t do more. Adding interactive features keeps your guests engaged and it gives you a place to share your feelings before the big day. Post engagement photos, video of yourself trying on dresses, or your thoughts as the wedding approaches. Your website can become your own personal social wedding network! Here’s how.

Video of the wedding Image source: Newweddingplanet.com

Wedding videos capture your special day for eternity. There’s nothing quite like reliving your wedding experience in real time. Memories can be so faulty on their own. But video is true and clear. It captures all of the little details you may miss while you’re overwhelmed with emotion, focused on nothing but the eyes of your one true love. Here are some creative ideas for incorporating video into your wedding.

Gift table

The gift table is an oft overlooked opportunity for creativity in design. All of your guests will see it up close so it’s a great chance to show them something special, something that embodies your theme and your personality. Usually the gift table is set off to the side, sometimes even in a separate room, removed from the main party area. Create a special gift table shrine to celebrate your guests for celebrating you. Include a personal note or a photograph, some flickering candles, some flowers, and some old fashioned quirk. If you’re guest book is on your gift table, make sure you put it in an obvious place so guests remember to sign it.

Wedding keep sake box

I didn’t think enough about capturing my wedding for posterity. I had a photographer, like most people do at their weddings, but that was it. I didn’t even have someone recording video! This is the only thing I regret about my wedding. After you’ve put so much work into making your day perfect, make sure you can remember every detail by planning your memories. Cover the basics—photographs and video—but get creative about other ways to record the day. Involve your guests in the project too. Remember: the day will go by so fast but the memories will last forever.

picture of an 1850s photographer

The faded pictures in our history books reveal that bridal photography has been around for ages. As early as 1850, photographers were lugging their equipment around to document our joyous occasions, but the process has evolved greatly since the days of copper sheets...
