Mostly because it's as much a preventative effort as it is a cure for the present state of affairs our planet is in. And, we all know that people are much more likely to go to the doctor when they're sick than when they're healthy, right? ![]() photo credit: celebson.com But every now and again, the real effects of our not-so-eco ways of living (aka, oil dependency) reveal themselves and the consequences of our choices cannot be ignored. Sadly, I do honestly believe that the oil spill situation may have been avoided in some parallel universe if the powers that be hadn't given up 20 years ago on a solution that could have drastically reduced our need for oil. (If you've never seen the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car?, I highly recommend it.) Was the oil spill an accident? Of course! Was part of the reason it happened because of political disagreements on where drilling should be done? Yes. But none of that changes the fact that we've had the technology for years to swiftly move in a direction away from oil altogether. And, if we had, we might not be in this position. photo credits: (left) usposttoday | (right) flickr user Marine Photobank ![]() photo credit: sindhtoday.net Yet, here we are. So, why the heck am I talking about all this? Because I think this may be the very first time I've seen an environmental disaster directly and specifically affect the wedding industry! Usually, its a general crisis, but this time, it has had a big impact for both brides and wedding vendors. I really feel terrible for all those affected by this and the only thing I can really say about it is that if we ever want the oil spills to end forever, we'll all have to start doing our part. Speaking up. Changing habits. Demanding more eco solutions. If you were on the green wedding fence before...or even just the green fence in general before, I hope this video will give you the inspiration to climb on board the eco train and be a part of the solution! We need you! As a bride, as a citizen, as an agent of change. The more we live green, buy green, speak green...the closer we get to a healthier, planet-friendly future. Check this video out and tell me what you think: Vintage Bridal Jewelry - New Design by Green Diva Eco Jewelry This show-stopping vintage daisy necklace is sure to steal more compliments than any other element of your wedding day (except for the bride herself, of course). In excellent condition, this vintage daisy has a pearlescent shine to its petals, giving off a soft glow and shimmery reflection. Outlined in gold accents, this vintage brooch is hung from Fair Trade, recycled brass chain in the simplest, most elegant way. Feminine, yet modern, this exclusive one-of-its-kind piece is sure to find its way to the free-spirited, vintage-inspired bride who amazes us all with her ability to be whimsical, dramatic and absolutely lovely all at the same time. Only one of its kind exists for the lucky bride lands this heirloom-worthy piece. ![]() Vintage Bridal Jewelry - New Design by Green Diva Eco Jewelry Another dramatic addition to the Green Diva line of vintage jewelry, this "something blue" vintage bracelet boasts two gorgeous shades of the calming color; baby blue and true blue. A sparkling brooch that stands entirely on its own, we didn't want to compete with its artistic beauty, so we paired it ever-so-gently with triple strands of one of our favorite Fair Trade, recycled brass chains, handmade of gorgeous oval cable. Chain is adjustable. For the blue-smitten bride, there is only of its kind and no other bride will share your unique look, wearing this darling bracelet...unless, of course, you find it in your heart to share it among your heirs one fine day ;) It will be difficult parting with this blue beauty, but we know there is a bride out there deserving of its tremendously positive energy! Vintage Bridal Jewelry - New Design by Green Diva Eco Jewelry This might be the toughest piece to part with all year!!! I'm absolutely in love with this darling Bows & Pearls multi-way vintage bridal necklace. It is has so much character, it just screams Audrey Hepburn. The necklace showcases an oversized gold-toned ribbon vintage brooch, laden with sparkling mini crystals and is delicately balanced on our Fair Trade, recycled brass chain with vintage jumbo pearls dangling from circular loops. Naturally, this piece is a one-of-a-kind and the bride who graces this work of art will find no match when it comes to her bridal jewelry. She will truly be in a class all by herself. **BONUS** Both chains in this piece are fully detachable. The flat oval link chain can be worn as a single strand or doubled up. The circular link chain with pearls will work fabulously as a bracelet all by itself. Once the fancy brooch is removed, this necklace will easily transition to everyday wear! ![]() ![]() And, of course, these darling earrings are the perfect pair to top it all off. ![]() This is just one of many fresh new designs at Green Diva Bridal, so be sure to check back for much more! ![]() Green Wedding Registry for Eco Brides and Grooms Did you know that, according to the “What’s on Brides’ Minds” 2009 survey by David’s Bridal, almost half of all brides (48%) are committed to going green this year, and this includes registering for eco-friendly products?

We offer hundreds of pre-screened environmentally responsible and affordable choices couples can feel good about adding to their wish list, without sacrificing style or quality....The idea is to provide shoppers with as much information as possible so they can make informed decisions about the products they are buying,” said Harrison. “Every product is hand-picked by our team and carefully screened to avoid ‘greenwashing,’ the practice of passing off non-green products as eco-friendly.” Want more tips on going green for your wedding day?Get our F.R.E.E report "7 Secrets to Your Luxury Green Wedding Without the Celebrity Pricetag" Green Wedding Events Coming To You - Hosted by Adele Wechsler and Aveda To all my ladies who aren't quite sure whether to drink the green koolaid for their wedding day, now is your chance to figure it out. 1st PLACE PRIZE: A $250 shopping spree toward Green Diva eco bridal jewelry 2nd PLACE PRIZE: The second best suggestion will win The Green Bride Guide book by Kate Harrison ![]() Fall Bridal Trend Prediction #5 from New York Fashion Week 2010 The Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week closed on February 18, leaving us with endless possibilities for what may come to the wedding market this Fall. Last week we learned that the runway isn't only just about garments and had a thing or two to say about accessorizing: Layered Pearls. In this final week of predictions, let's take a look at the one bridal trend that's sure to take over the wedding gown from head to toe. Fall Bridal Trend Prediction #5 - All Over Embellishment![]() Badgley Mischka made it loud and clear: more is better. Forget the single flower or bow embellishment that rests on the hip or decorates a single strap...it just multiplied. This fall, don't be surprised if designers are pushing the traditional wedding envelope a bit and spreading their embelishments from the tip of the neckline right through to the floor. Bridal dresses may flaunt anything from ruffles to flowers to crystals and even bows throughout the entire length of the gown. What makes this trend 'green'? This trend will make any wedding gown a true statement piece and could easily be too formal for another event; which is why the best way to keep it eco is to make it more versatile. So take a deep breath and let go a little. Have your favorite tailor take the gown up to tea length or higher. Pair it with a belt in a bold non-white color and wear it to the next cocktail party or charity dinner. Be sure to add color in all your accessories, including heels, purse and jewelry. This will help tone down the white a bit. --Request your FREE report "7 Secrets to Your Luxury Green Wedding Without the Celebrity Pricetag"-- |
