Real Green Weddings
Jonathan Thompson and Lori Lacy were married in October of 2009 at The Plant at Kyle in Austin, Texas.
About the Couple:
Lori works as a webmaster and graphic designer and Jonathan owns a business specializing in providing energy efficiency solutions for homes and commercial buildings.
The Decision to Go Green:
When they decided to get married they immediately chose a representative step for the life they would live together. Jon and Lori wanted to make simple green decisions to lessen their impact on the environment without losing elegance or style. They've always been environmentally conscientious as individuals and as a couple. "Early on we made the decision to build a life rich in experience rather than rich in possession," the bride tells us. Their slogan for life is “simple, sustainable, joyous and fun,” and they wanted their wedding to reflect that.
Together they came up with a list of criteria that they applied to everything in their wedding. Is it second hand? Is it reusable, and if not, is it recyclable? If it can only be used once, are the materials sustainable and where is its origin? These questions allowed Jonathan and Lori to make small green decisions that added up quickly.
