Real Green Weddings
Meghan McKinney and Peter Kostishack were married in Florida on March 15, 2008.
How They Met
Meghan and Peter met in DC while working for a non-profit that helps indigenous peoples and environmental organizations. They dated for three years before getting engaged. As Meghan recalls, "Pete and I were both in Peru for work (we scheduled it to work out that way) and we took a quick vacation to Cusco and Machu Picchu. In Cusco, Pete took me to the place where his parents had lived when they were in Peace Corps there in the 60s. Then he proposed in the same building where his parents were married."
The Decision to Go Green
"It was important to us to have a green wedding. The wedding really reflected who we are: the flower party gave me and my girlfriends and mom's friends a chance to work as a community on something together that we felt proud of, the charitable gifts we made to other orgnaizations gave us a chance to thank people publicly who we respect and who work very hard for causes we believe in, and the small things like using glasses and plates instead of paper and plastic, as well as using recylced paper in the invitations, are so easy now. Many vendors are happy to oblige these types of requests. It was simple and very satisfying to make our wedding a little easier on the earth."
Invitations
"Our wedding invitations were part post-consumer waste and 100% recyclable. We got the invitation supplies from the Paper Source. They have great kits to put together your own invitations."
