Real Green Weddings
Jackie Schwartz and Peter Czerpak were married on August 10, 2008 in Healdburg, California.
About the Couple
Jackie and Peter met when they both joined a backcountry ski group in Lake Tahoe. As Jackie recalls, “Pete was cranky when we met, but quickly made up for it over the extended season of day and multi-day ski trips (snowfall that year was epic).”
Besides their shared passion for skiing, Jackie and Pete feed their relationship with their “dueling” careers; Jackie works in public health, researching the impacts of exposure to chemicals, while Pete is a chemical engineer. “We keep each other in business, so to speak,” jokes the couple.
The Decision to Go Green
Jackie and Pete don't remember making a conscious decision to have a green wedding. Instead, Jackie says, “we simply planned our wedding in the same way that we live our daily lives.” They typically make efforts to eat local and organic, conserve paper and other resources, and contribute to causes about which they are passionate, so including all of these elements (and more!) in their wedding was a natural extension of their lifestyle.
