Invitations
As the couple explained on their website, "When we were making our invitations, we had two goals. First, we wanted to create a three-dimensional, interactive experience. Second, we wanted to use found, recycled, or reused/reusable materials wherever possible...We packed the box with little items that each represented a different part of the weekend. An organic chocolate told guests about the dessert reception, a packet of organic tea had information about the brunch, etc. We also included a handmade paper invitation scrolled and tied with a scrap of leather and a sprig of lavender from our garden."
"The main image of the invitation was a modified cartouche taken from a 1659 map of New England from Yale University's Sterling Map Collection." Barry photographed the cartouche and used Photoshop to alter it with help from Kate's brother Alex and mother Ruth. One special change was substituting the Starin family crest (Kate's paternal family) for the imperialist lion in the emblem at the top of the invitation. Once the image was complete, Barry printed it out on watercolor paper for Kate's painterly brush. The colored invitation was rescanned and printed on post-consumer waste parchment paper.
