Friends helped put up the chuppah for the ceremony, made from bamboo cut from their neighbor's yard, and the musician’s talis (prayer shawl). The couple also decorated the site with Buddhist prayer flags from Bhutan.
To continue the party, Susan and Larry had a pot luck reception. They provided pies from Dangerously Delicious Pies, and local beer, Wild Goose and Yuengling. Guests could post what they were bringing on their Weebly wedding website. Compostable dishes, cups, and flatware from Green Events in CA were used to lessen disposable waste. The bride and groom also asked their guests to dump their leftovers, as well as the plates, into a compost area next to the organic garden located on site.
Other reception details included placecards that were handwritten and created from Larry’s old business cards and a dance party with music from an iPod playlist instead of a band or DJ.
