Real Green Weddings
Registry
"We used the wonderful Alternative Gift Registry created by the Center for a New American Dream. This allowed us to 'register' for donations to causes we cared about, for guests to purchase carbon offsets for their travel to our wedding, and for friends to help us with errands as their gift. For items we needed, we specified that we'd welcome used items, and also provided links to the items from green housewares companies listed in the National Green PagesTM. We had already been living together and were lucky enough to have plenty of housewares, so we tried to get creative about naming gifts we could really use. On our registry, we invited guests to help contribute towards a synagogue membership in our local congregation, to purchase recycled, union-printed notecards we could use for thank you notes (from Syracuse Cultural Workers), and a gift certificate to a framing store to cover the cost of having our marriage contract framed. We listed the Judaica items we already owned, to prevent duplication, and encouraged guests explicitly not to have gifts wrapped. Our registry will be up for a few more months.
