Hank and Miri "didn't use printed invitations because we didn't want to waste the paper. Instead, we got everyone's email and send a jpeg invitation and continued communication [via email] as we got closer to the wedding." They also created a wedding website for their guests as a source of centralized information for both celebrations. The site provided wedding-related activity descriptions, dates and times, and information about travel, hotel rooms (including the option to room-share for single travelers), and the destination cities. Guests also used the website to RSVP. It detailed the specifics of shuttle transportation to and from wedding events, which helped eliminate the number of vehicles traveling to the same place.
The couple posted an alternative registry on their site, encouraging guests to contribute to their goals of getting a dog (and all the necessary pet supplies), and purchasing a car. This helped to eliminate wasteful purchases of household items they already owned or did not need. They also donated 10% of their wedding money "to a high school friend of Hank's whose daughter has been diagnosed with cancer. It has been very hard on the family monetarily."
Finally, the website also served as a place to post photographs from the wedding, and the couple encouraged guests to submit their own candid pictures. For programs, they kept it simple and sustainable, by printing them out on recycled paper.
