Real Green Weddings
The couple registered with the I Do Foundation and Alternative Registry, which "allows couples to ask their guests for anything they choose, tangible or intangible. We, for example, 'registered' for works of art and...indicated that dedications of masterpieces yet-to-be-drafted were acceptable as well."
The newlyweds' commitment to their green wedding extended well into the two-part honeymoon. First, they spent an evening at the Saugerties Lighthouse, an historic lighthouse on Espous Creek recently renovated into a two-bedroom bed and breakfast and education center. Then, they ventured to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they lodged in Aaron's aunt and uncle's guest room and took a rented Prius to every nearby national park, native pueblo, historic location, or art museum they could fit into nine days. They carbon offset their travel via Native Energy, and their wedding website (created in lieu of save-the-date cards) encouraged guests to offset their travel to the event as well.
