Real Green Weddings
The wedding invitations, by Carlson Craft, were a newer, less wasteful design than traditional wedding invitations. They were a tri-fold, "seal & send" design, made of one long piece of 100% recycled paper and no envelope. The last third of the invitation was a perforated RSVP postcard, easy for guests to fill out and mail back.
Each invitation was sent with a Breast Cancer Awareness stamp, which raise 13 cents each for breast cancer research.
Michael and Keri chose as many green options on their gift registry as possible. They opted for items made from bamboo and organic cotton, chose glass or silicone rather than plastic, and stainless steel over non-stick surfaces.
They even went a step further and requested that their gifts be wrapped in alternative gift wrap. Their guests got creative, bringing presents covered in reusable shopping bags, brown paper, and shells and raffia in place of bows and ribbon. At Keri's bridal shower all the wrapping paper from over 60 guests could fit into a small plastic shopping bag from a supermarket, as opposed to the garbage bags full usually thrown out after a bridal shower.
In order to highlight choices like these, and educate their guests about their "green wedding," Keri and Michael printed up the pictured information sheet for display at the reception.
