The reception took place in the garden, which was decorated with personalized, hand cut paper picada from AyMujer. A tent was set up for dinner, and guests found their places using place cards made from vintage playing cards that were beautifully decorated with wildflowers, butterflies, and hand-stamped names. To avoid using paper goods and add a bit of flair, Matt and Emily chose to rent cloth napkins, tablecloths, real plates, and real flatware.
The couple did blind taste tests in order to find the “best local BBQ” in the area to serve at their reception. They chose Doan’s Bones to cater the event, a company that uses chickens and pigs raised in the local area for their meats. Emily and Matt used kegs from a local micro brewery, Otto’s. They also served the cucumber water, lemonade, iced tea, and beer from clear beverage dispensers and used canning jars instead of cups to cut down on the waste of using disposables.
