Sara grew up in Maine, so the couple chose The Asticou Inn, an historic inn in Northeast Harbor for their wedding. "Mount Desert Island is important to us for a number of reasons. For me, it is a place my family spent time every summer growing up, camping, hiking and enjoying being outside. I've got great memories of hikes up the eastern side of Cadillac Mountain, picking blueberries the whole way, going home exhausted, and waking up the next morning to make a batch of fresh blueberry pancakes! Delicious! Later in life, the island was the place we held a celebration of my mom Joyce's life after she passed away in 2001. For this reason, the island was an important place for me to bring Dean. It just so happened that one of the first things we decided to do together was to train for a marathon. We decided to run the MDI marathon in 2006 - those long hours of training gave us a lot of time to get to know each other and meeting this challenge together in a place that had become so special to both of us really solidified our connection to the island."
