Real Green Weddings
Keri Heffernan and Michael Mendoza were married on August 13, 2009 at the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth, RI.
About the Couple
Keri and Michael first met in November 2006, at a birthday party for a mutual friend, and for a second time at the same friend's New Year's Eve party. But it wasn't until after a third meeting-they reconnected at another party the following summer, at which they spent the entire evening together, talking-that they finally decided to book their first real date. Keri brought Michael home for a family cookout, figuring if he could survive that, he was a keeper! Shortly thereafter the couple moved in together, and became engaged just before Valentine's Day 2009.
The Decision to Go Green
As a couple, Keri and Michael try to live green every day for many reasons: for their health, for the environment and because it saves money and spreads awareness. "We are not the greenest couple out there," Keri says, "but we do what we can, when we can. That is our motto." They believe in expanding the idea of "being green" to cover more than just environmental issues. When it came to planning their wedding, the two wanted to incorporate green elements to highlight the humanitarian and social responsibility aspects of environmentalism.
